Socialites

The past week has put us in touch with friends far and near. First, it was shopping with Amy and baby Charlie on Saturday, then on Sunday, D and I headed to Lake Pleasant to visit the Jordans and Palmers, who were RV camping for the weekend. Monday brought a visit to the Sisters Ehrler, Kev, and Baby H, where I heard a fantastic story about a suicidal dove that knocked out power to the whole neighborhood. On Tuesday, we packed in EIGHT errands and returned home just in time to greet Eric, Steve, and Lauren, who had just flown in from Salt Lake. We put Steve, the master chef, to work in the kitchen preparing some amazing chicken fajitas for the whole neighborhood. But don't worry, we provided assistance with the chopping and threw him beers along the way. Kristin brought over some Lu Signature undercooked brownies, the boys filled the fountain with rocks (their favorite activity at our house), and Hudson got a chance to play Uncle's video games, the ultimate prize in his eyes. I was safely in bed prior to 10pm while the troops headed out on a nighttime Rhino ride. A fun, full, and successful night.

Today brings swimming pool shenanigans and hopefully some time to take care of unfinished business before heading out in the afternoon to the Mumford and Sons concert. The Prescott crew is coming down, and a bunch of our friends in town have also secured tickets so we will have quite the crew on the lawn at Desert Sky. I am not a huge concert-goer, but I am most definitely excited for this one. But I'm also nervous. My body, and specifically my circulation system, does not do well in the heat, and carrying an extra person might make it even more challenging. (Remember when I hit the floor at the Daniel Tosh show?) I managed to find a personal battery-operated fan and mister device at Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday. (And the best part? My 20% off coupon had come in yesterday's mail, which we had picked up on our way into town). The fan is fluorescent green, and I'm sure it'll make me the envy of all M&S fans. But I don't care. As long as it keeps my temperature down, the blood from pooling in my feet, and in a conscious state of mind the whole time, then I'll accept all the strange looks directed my way with no problem at all.

My 5 o'clock alarm tomorrow morning followed by a long day on the job will be most unwelcoming after the night we'll have tonight. With my energy level waning a little more every day, I'm wondering if going to this concert on a work night is maybe not the best decision. But at the same time, you have to live your life, and I think I'll always regret missing this show. We've got less than three months left to take advantage of our freedom, so I am going for it.
