Welcome Home, Gavin James!

Baby G and I were discharged from the hospital yesterday morning. I was literally confined to the walls of my hospital room from August 24th to 27th. I had one window that opened up to a view of another wing of the hospital...no sky or earth could be seen. I got up a handful of times with assistance to use the restroom and once to shower. So getting into the car and feeling the heat and sunlight felt really good, but it really threw me off. Like whoa, welcome to your new life.

Everything has gone as one would expect. We're new parents with a 4-day-old. We're sleep-deprived and homebound for a little bit, but we've been well taken care of by my family...so we are well fed. Baby G is fantastic. He has his nights and days reversed for now, but I can't make any claim as to 'oh he's such a good baby!' or 'he sleeps great!' or anything else. Because he's 4 days old. Tomorrow we go to the pediatrician for a check-up. I think he will do good!

I am mobile on my own, but still unsteady. My knee still buckles and takes me by surprise, and if I accidentally put all my weight on my right leg when stepping over something or bending down to pick something up, it usually does not end well. I've taken a few falls since we've gotten home, including when I walked through the door for the first time. So Baby G has to be brought to me when I want him. No walking with baby. It complicates things a bit, but I'm hopeful it will be a temporary situation. Nobody really knows. Nerve damage takes a long time to heal, but I'm making a lot of progress.

Roundhouse punch!

Good morning, Gavin!

Naps all around

Joe and Ramona are adjusting well, I think. They leave the baby alone, for the most part. I think they feel a little neglected, but I'm pleasantly surprised by them for the most part.

Dylan, after just a few days, wins Dad of the Year in my opinion. The guy takes it all in stride, does what needs to be done, and does it well. Just today I changed my first diaper because I figured out a way to safely get the baby on the make-shift changing table in our room by myself. He has done all the others. We really love this little guy!

Some people have asked to let me know when we're up for visitors. We are ready whenever! Things pop up throughout the day, especially since I'm still learning to breastfeed, so we might have to take a quick time-out, and I can't guarantee the baby will be awake (in fact, I can almost guarantee he won't), but he's happy to have you hold him either way. Thank you for everyone's well-wishes and for checking in on us!
