You and Me, Kid

I can hardly think back to a time when I wasn't 1) Alone with Gavin, 2) With a house full of company, or 3) in Mexico. It's been such a long time since normal. And yes, in reference to point #1, I'm alone with Gavin far more often than any of us would like, but it will never be our normal. We always miss having Dylan here when he's gone.

But today, he came home! After the second weekend in a row alone with G, I was more than happy to hand off the baby and hitch a ride with my bike to the top of the preserve. It was so awesome. Not much of a workout, as it's all downhill to get back home, but amazing for clearing one's mind. You'd better believe that I received a quick zap to the fattiest part of each inner thigh when I got to the intersection with Powerline Road. I've channeled my inner teenager and recently taken to Spotify's Top 100 Country Songs. I'm rediscovering country music all over again, and I'm starting to really like it, especially on bike rides. What does this say about me? I dunno. A lot of music fanatics are probably throwing up in their mouths. But I think it's fun, light, and easy, so okay.

The highlight of the weekend was most definitely Friday night, when Gavin and I met up with Kris and the girls at Grimaldi's. No matter that they went to Market Street and we were at Scottsdale Quarter. They made record time to meet us at the Quarter...thanks for making the extra effort, girls! It was about as hectic a dinner as you'd expect with three small children, but we had so much fun catching up. Gavin loved the pizza crust as much as anyone else. We left there asking ourselves why we don't do this more often? Neither of us had a good answer to that question, but we resolved to do better!

The boys showing Gavin their new helicopter.

Belly laughs!

Thank goodness for our guard dog.

All I wanted to do was read a catalog, but Gavin kept grabbing it and putting it in his mouth. So I turned him over on my legs and gave him a different catalog to eat. It worked!

The neighbors are probably getting sick of seeing me cruising around with the stroller. I love fresh air and exercise, Gavin loves stroller rides, and the dogs love to go on walks, so we are outside a LOT. Like a half hour jog, then back to the house for water (for me) and a bottle (for G), then we leash up the dogs and walk for a half hour. I hear it's approaching 100 degrees here in the next week, so it'll be back to the gym for us very soon.

Other than that, we had breakfast with Max and the boys on Saturday, where Gavin showed off his screaming skills and had to be reminded by Hudson several times to use his inside voice. I got an amazing amount of stuff done around the house, probably spent too much money online, and I made some fantastic progress on the photo book I'm making of Gavin's first six months. My parents came out this morning, and G and I hung out with my mom and Cruz while the other boys went on a ride. We are looking forward to hopefully having a normal week around here, though everyone knows that could all change with a single phone call. I'm hearing a haircut and possibly an appointment for acupuncture calling my name if I can get the stars aligned. Not to toot my own horn, but I most certainly deserve some pampering.
