Back in the day, every Saturday that Dylan was in town was 'Lu Day.' I got to pick out the day's activities, restaurants, etc. Not because I'm spoiled, but because I was deserving. Dylan had had his fun by the time Saturday rolled around. Unfortunately, having 'Lu Day' every Saturday is not really in the cards for us anymore. But, I did get a mini-Lu Day on Tuesday. Starting with an early jog followed by Mom's Group in the morning...and then I came home and holed up in the bedroom with my iPad for an hour...and then I hit Z Tejas for happy hour with my work buddies before attending a mandatory nighttime meeting. I wouldn't really say that spending three hours in a conference room and getting home at 10:30 (hello, LATE) is the most ideal way to top off my 'Lu Day,' but at the same time I don't mind getting paid to do something that's actually easy, as long as childcare arrangements are relatively headache-free. (And they were...Dylan was home, and for once we knew he would be.)
So, then likewise, Wednesday was deemed A Day of Gavin. We had originally planned to hit the pumpkin patch with G's cousins, but the dodgy weather foiled our plans. However, the boy needs action, and when he's being a total pill, I do everything I can to get the heck out of this house. So we loaded up early and decided to do the train and carousel at PV Mall. But when we passed MacDonald's Ranch on our way, the rain had let up, and the radar app showed we had a good window of time before it would be back. So, we were one of the first patrons at the ranch that morning. Gavin had a great time seeing the horses, mules, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc. His new word is "goats." It was actually a perfect fall morning. We were the only ones on the train to the pumpkin patch, and I felt kind of guilty that the whole place was staffed and we were one of about two families there...so I bought two pumpkins instead of one. It was super fun, and I'd go again...so if you're headed there some time before Halloween and want some company, hit me up!
Next, we loaded up and headed to the park so Gavin could swing and crawl around in the grass. Then, it was off to the mall. But first, we swung through Dutch Bros. for some wonderful warm beverages. Gavin was completely thrilled to ride the train and carousel and play in the kids area. He was so wiped out, he passed out immediately in the car and transferred to his crib where he slept another two hours. It's almost unheard of, but completely amazing. I hit the gym and the store and got my ducks in a row for the rest of the week before closing out second-weekend.
Oh, but don't feel too bad for Dylan. He fit in 18 holes today. See...we all get our chance to just do what we want to do every now and then.
We gave Dylan a quick adios in passing today. He was headed to the airport, and we were at the park by Dawn's house with Jess and Drew. It's a always a huge blow to our quality of life when he has to leave. You'd think it would be something that we'd be used to by now, but somehow that's just not the case. It never gets easier, and it always sucks. But...the house always stays a lot tidier, I usually sleep better, and I tend to eat less and workout more. You know, silver lining or whatever.
The rest of the week and weekend will prove to be incredibly busy by my standards, and Gavin is sure to give me a run for my money. I don't know if I can keep up with this pace forever, but I'm glad that this place is coming alive again and we've got so many fun things to do.
