Tantrum

I though tantrums were for 2-year-olds. Goodness. Today Gavin full-on flipped out because he wanted his red Jeep and it was outside. I thought he was seriously hurt with the way he was shrieking and crying uncontrollably. I guess I have some reading to do because I have no idea how to best handle this.

I'm coming off a nearly 6-day stretch of having a decent break from my mom life. I worked Thursday and Friday, and then Dylan and I spent most of Saturday and Sunday in Sedona. On Monday, Gavin stayed with Dylan, and I met my aunts and cousins for happy hour after work. Then on Tuesday, I went to a moms group in the morning, met my mom for some quick shopping, hit the gym to workout, shower, and chill with my iPad, and then it was happy hour round 2 at Kona Grill with some girlfriends. Both happy hours were early birthday celebrations. How nice it was to see everyone and have a couple glasses of wine. Thanks for coming, everyone! It was a really great time, but I was excited to spend my day today with Gavin. As usual, he put me through the ringer, but we had some good times as well. It wasn't the worst day with him, but it wasn't the best day...so I'm happy that he's in bed, and I can finish some chores and maybe catch a TV show.

Dessert at The Standard. I really recommend that place!

My sweet cousin, Sum.

Mom and me

Some kids sleep with a teddy, some kids sleep with a blanket. Gavin sleeps (and eats) with a bus.

It remains true that he and I are both much happier if we can get out of the house and burn some energy, so I had a big plan to hit the park and then story time at the library this morning. Tantrum #1 threw a kink in the plans. He put himself to sleep in the car, so instead of the park, we sat in the library parking lot while G wrapped up an unexpected morning nap. But by golly, we had driven all the way to the library, and so I woke him up for the event. It was completely dorky and so worthwhile. I think he loved it, and he was only in the top 4 most obnoxious children in attendance. He screamed loudly in the main part of the library twice. Oops. We decided to hit the swings after the library, and then the rest of the day was spent at home...a place I had missed lately. In-between poops, meals, playing, and freak-outs, I managed to catch up on laundry and get some food together for the week. We closed out the night with a bike ride, and I think I feel okay about the fact that tomorrow is a work day. I am brainstorming ideas to get us out and about for the weekend since it's just G and I until the beginning of next week. I'm not thrilled with the weekend weather forecast, but I'm sure we'll have fun nonetheless.
