This year for Halloween Gavin was a Scotsman. He was given a kilt on his birthday from his Guinea...so how could he not dress up as a little bagpiper for Halloween? Dylan found a Scottish store in Salt Lake City when he was there a few weeks ago and picked up mini bagpipes to pin to Gavin's turtleneck and some kilt hose as well. We threw on the little pageboy hat that Jess and Hazel gave him for his birthday and called it an outfit. We were pretty proud of how it came together. Except for the fact that the shoes I had planned for him didn't fit once we put on the thick knee socks, so he wore camouflage Crocs. Oh well.
Gavin spent the day partying big time at Dawn's and came home with a bag full of treats. I ducked out of work a tad early to grab him and meet up with our family for some chili and trick-or-treating at Jojo's house. The chili was exceptionally delicious, and it was so much fun to see the kids dressed up and so excited. Thanks, Jojo! We pushed Gavin in the stroller and did our best to keep our distance from the candy. Gavin and I both hit a wall sometime before 7 and called it a night, and Dylan headed to our neighbor's annual party after tucking us into bed. The only take-away I was given from the party was that our neighbor who tends the mini-horses and sees us often on our walks said to Dylan in her thick German accent, "Your baby is huge."

Dylan departed today for a trip to Charleston. My heart hurts that I cannot be there too, but he will be sure to visit all of our favorite places and re-live the glory days, and I will be along in spirit if I'm not too busy being jealous. He left the house at 10 this morning, which allowed me to hit the gym while Gavin simultaneously took a newly re-instated morning nap. It's not a guarantee that things will go swimmingly on the home front, but it certainly helped to get our weekend off on the right foot. I, however, woke up with a cold sore this morning, which is disgusting and also an unfriendly reminder for me to slow down and maybe get some more sleep, so we'll see what we can do about that this weekend, too.
