The Dad-and-Baby Theory

Whenever I go out in public with Gavin, it always happens that he'll have an admirer or two, especially because he likes to wave at people and say "bye!" That is to be expected with any baby or toddler, I would assume. But, when Dylan takes him to the store or wherever, he says ladies are just fawning over them. For example, after swim lessons the other morning, I went on my merry way to do some stuff in town, and D & G went to Costco. Dylan said that a lady came over from the next aisle because she heard Gavin talking and she "just had to see that baby." That kind of thing does not happen to me. Can we all agree that a dad with a baby draws 300% more positive attention (and probably a lot more leniency when the child acts up in public) than does a mom in the same situation? I'm not complaining...I'm not a big stranger and small talk kind of person. It's just funny. That's all.

Well, I think that is mostly all I have for you. It was a fine week. Gavin had his 18-month check up, and though he grew two inches in the last three months, he's only gained a quarter pound. This keeps his height in the 98th percentile, but his weight has dropped to the 74th percentile. Still, I don't understand why he is so big. We did a bike ride on the green belt with my parents on Tuesday, and I got back on the preserve with my bike (finally!) on Wednesday. There was a happy hour with the ladies thrown in there, and Gavin ate some more potting soil on his dad's watch. G did a super job at swim lessons in stark contrast to his performance the first time, and I think that just about tells it all!

Here are some old photos from before our trip. I really cooled it on the photography this week. Wow.

Dylan sent me this photo of Joe Dirt while I was out at HH

G and I hung out at the park before I took off for Colorado

Gavin was hoping to stow away. Didn't happen.

While I was hooking up the bike trailer, Gavin crawled in all on his own. Ready to ride!

Someone needs to teach this guy some manners.

Hooray for the weekend!
