Just the Three of Us

We didn't have much on the agenda over the weekend. Actually, we had a couple of plans...but I bailed on going to Phoenix Flea with Amanda and Sam because I was tired and it was far away, and we had to bail on little Olivia's first birthday party because Gavin had a mild cough, which I'm pretty sure is nothing, but our gang has always been pretty good about keeping our germs at home.

After work on Friday, G and I met D at Mellow Mushroom for happy hour and pizza and followed it up with frozen yogurt. I was exhausted when we made it home, and I told Dylan that all I want is to some day just lay on my couch for three hours uninterrupted to watch TV and movies. I recently listened to the Serial podcast, and I was OBSESSED. It made me realize how much I miss getting lost in a story. Since I spend so much time in the car, I've been listening to other podcasts, too, but for some reason I just really missed watching TV.

On Saturday, just shy of 3am, I learned to be careful about what you wish for. I woke up for some reason, and each time I drifted back to sleep, somebody would snore, or cough, or bark, or a woodpecker would start doing its thing on our house. It was like a comedy of errors and truly maddening. So, I gave up and went out to the family room to take in hours and hours of TV. By morning, I was a little fulfilled, but mostly cranky.

I eventually got out of the house to take in a yoga class to get my mind righted. It worked. Then, I got a big ol' iced tea at AJ's and did some work on their patio to finally tackle some of that CE. I chose unexpired lessons this time. With all that under my belt, my mood had improved dramatically by the time D and G came to pick me up in the afternoon. We headed to the Railroad Park for an event just for little kids, and Gavin had a blast in the petting zoo, on the carousel, on the train, and on the swing. At night, we picked up some kebabs for the grill and enjoyed the mild weather in the backyard.

Sunday was another good day for this family of three. I awoke early, but normal early for me. And since G slept in till 7:15 (and hence Dylan slept in), it meant that I had just enough time to catch a movie on Amazon Prime. Glorious! Then, we hustled to get ready and hit up REI before going to downtown Phoenix for Art Detour. We walked around, checked out the murals and a couple of galleries, and had lunch at the Phoenix Public Market Cafe. On the way back, Dylan picked up a ridiculous looking 3-speed fat tire beach cruiser for towing Gavin's buggy. This can only mean at least one or two more trips on the green belt before summer begins and we are confined to the boring indoors.

G and I picked up some necessities at Safeway on our way home today, and the nice old man at the bakery offered G a cookie. I decided to ignore what I know about artificial colors and added sugar and have a little fun, so I said "sure, thanks!" 94% of the cookie ended up in crumbled pieces on the dairy aisle, and the remaining 6% is pictured here on his body. The result of palming the cookie and smushing it into his mouth as quickly as possible. I will not make this mistake again.

Both my mom and Dawn say that he does great with a spoon. I guess he likes to cut loose in the comfort of his own home.

It was a really, really nice weekend. We weren't exactly social...in fact the complete opposite. But, any weekend with Dylan at home is a good one, and we are looking forward to a very busy week!
