Birthday Festivities

It's an extended birthday celebration around here. Dylan was out of town for the big day, so we had a mini celebration one night early where I baked zucchini bread in a cake pan, made some frosting and called it "cake." Gavin understood the concept of blowing out candles but only made the tiniest little puffs, so we had to give him some help. Afterward he opened a couple of gifts, and that was that.

His favorite thing was this camp chair, even though he fell off it a few times.

On the morning of his actual birthday, I made him waffles and gave him more candles to blow out. He kept asking for more cake, and since he knows what waffles are, this can only mean that anything with candles on it is a cake in his mind. On the night of the big day, my parents and my brother's family came over for snacks and another "cake." Gavin had had a pretty cranky day but became re-energized when he saw his cousins. They played happily and ate pizza, and he got a couple of really cool gifts! A personalized tractor story from my parents and a Paw Patrol car and puzzle from his cousins. Score! We sang happy birthday (again), and he was so cute. I think he grew to love all the attention and kept saying "Gavin's birthday." In the morning he kept asking me to "see cousins." He had been asking all weekend to go back and play with the cars at Dawn's house, and now that we were finally heading there, all he wanted to do was see his cousins or go to the swimming pool. I can't blame him...they're a pretty good time.

Got a little too close for comfort to those candles.

Yeah, they're hot

A gift from his cousins!

I just love this gaggle of boys.

Guys' dinner

The fun didn't stop there. The kids at Dawn's house had popsicles for Gavin's birthday party, and she told me that he said "Popsicle is delicious!" His dad made it home in time for dinner tonight and a little bit of play time, and here we are. The fun is not over yet. We are having a birthday party with some of my cousins and their kids this weekend, and Guinea and Grandpa are coming to visit, too. What a fortunate little guy he is to get so much love and attention. I had a lot of fun, too!
