Catching Up

I'm trying to remember where we left off. The days and weeks begin to blur together, and it's hard to believe October is just nine short days away. Time flies when you're having fun!

Dylan was on the road for about four days, and we had Gavin at home every day last week, so things were a little different than normal. Gavin had his first day of soccer with his pal CG, we clocked a good amount of time with my parents over the weekend while they were homebound, and I had an unexpected and very pleasant Saturday lunch with Jess and Nora.

Gavin was not worried about impressing anybody on the soccer field. He was the only guy among nine girls...all of whom knew how to cooperate and follow directions a little better than he did. That's okay, he just turned 2, and the class is for 2 and 3-year-olds, so I'd like to think he's a little on the younger side. Whatever. He did the first two drills okay, then after we stopped to get some water, he wouldn't return to the field and would tantrum if I tried to bring him back in the game. Well, there's always next week...

This morning, we hit the zoo at 8:45am during members only hours, thinking that on a Monday morning it would be empty. We were mostly correct in that assumption, but we were met by a happy coincidence when we bumped into none other than Jess, Kevin, and Hazel. We took the kids to the fort to play and had a couple rounds on the carousel before hitting the road for lunch at Capriotti's. Don't worry...we clocked a good amount of time with the monkeys, and Gavin's enthusiasm for them has not wavered. It was so humid, and we were happy to feel a few raindrops before we left for the morning.

I'll allow the pictures to fill in the details.

We've been good about eating dinner together at the table. Here's Gavin re-purposing a butter knife.

I dragged him all over Desert Ridge one afternoon, and he was such a good boy, so we hit the park on the way home, where he proceeded to jump to me from the top of the playground. Uncool.

Posing with CG before practice and wearing his game face. He takes soccer very seriously. Obviously.

Gavin with the ladies cheering with Coach.

Reading magazines at Nonna and Papa's house.

Upside down fun at home with Nonna while Dylan and Dad watched the Sunday night game.

Please enjoy watching Gavin come unglued while watching the monkeys.

Checking out the monkeys at the zoo.

Playing in the fort at the zoo. I have a feeling a fort may be a fixture in our backyard in the near future.

Loves the carousel...and then completely loses it when it's time to get off.

Lately he's either been throwing things or standing up on things when he wants attention. Stinker.

He's getting demoted to the skateboard attachment or the rumble seat to make room for his baby brother. I think he likes it, though.

We spent the afternoon clearing out junk in the auxiliary room in preparation for a bunk bed delivery coming soon. We're in no rush to have the room pulled together since nobody will be sleeping in there until it's time for Gavin to move out of the crib, which won't be for several more months (I hope). However, I am excited to design and decorate the boys' room...and how awesome it will be in a few years when they're both in there together!

Aaaaaand Dylan just walked by and threw a piece of candy on my belly. The man knows me so well. With that, I'll wrap this up and enjoy a little sugar high before calling it a night!
