Simple Green Smoothies

Back in July when Dylan visited us in Portland for a couple days, Gavin and I randomly got involved in a green smoothie movement. We took Gavin to the park one afternoon, and Dylan and I sat on a bench watching G on the playground. He ran around to the other side of the playground, and since the street was over there, I ran over, too. I don't mess around when the kid gets near the street. He doesn't seem fast, but it's surprising how quickly he can get away from me. Anyway, this kind of thing is not quite as alarming to Dylan, who stayed on the bench and became engrossed in something on his phone.

Gavin did not go in the street but rather ended up in the sandbox, just next to the street. So I stayed close enough to keep one eye on him when suddenly a nice girl approached me and asked me if "the boy in the blue shirt" was my child and had he ever had a green smoothie. I felt like the right answer was no, so that's what I told her, and then she asked if she could film him trying a smoothie. I'm always up to participate in random things, so I told her sure. The smoothie had banana, mango, and pineapple...all of the highest sugar fruits, so of course Gavin loved it, and they got some cute footage of him.

The girl I spoke with was a major player in publishing a book called Simple Green Smoothies, which comes out on November 3rd. I imagine it's a recipe book. She recently emailed me a link to their website (just click on "Simple Green Smoothies" below), and if you scroll down a bit and hit play on the video you can see a couple quick clips of us throughout it. She also just emailed me the consent form to have our picture in her book. I don't see why that would be a problem, so I was happy to oblige.

Simple Green Smoothies

This is the one going in the book. Too bad I didn't get my nails done. Which is no surprise because I never, ever get my nails done.

When everything was all said and done, Dylan emerged from the other side of the playground and wondered what we'd been up to. Bummer, he missed the entire thing. A good lesson in keeping your nose out of your phone and enjoying the moment!

On a side note, their smoothie made me really, really want a Vitamix. It was blended so smoothly and deliciously. The Ninja is great and all, but I still get tiny specks of green when I make my smoothies. Anybody else? Or the Blendtec...that would rock. The Pioneer Woman has a Blendtec, and we all know that she is incredible. Is it pathetic that I have a blender at the top of my list for when I strike gold? Dylan says he'll look to see if anybody's offering a 2-year lease on a Vitamix to get me for my birthday. What a guy.
