Home Sweet Home, Round 2

We didn't even stay home long enough to fill up the dishwasher with dirty dishes. It was just enough time to unpack, do a few loads of laundry and pack it right up again. Destination? Iceland. For Gavin? Nonna and Papa's house and cabin. On Thursday, G and I headed to my parents' house, and we joined some aunts and uncles for dessert. Then, it was off to bed for G, followed by me shortly thereafter.

I had a 3am alarm on Friday to catch a 5:40am flight to New York. Then, I sat at JFK for 9 hours and got on a red-eye to Reykjavik, Iceland, where I arrived safely and soundly at 8am Saturday morning. Sound brutal? It was...but I was prepared for it, and so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Luckily, Dylan is a pretty forward-thinking kind of guy and found me some passes to the SkyLounge for my layover, so at least I didn't have to slum it. After I arrived, I napped for a couple of hours and then got the ball rolling.

But, I will skip ahead to Tuesday. I was actually supposed to be arriving on Delta via JFK later tonight. The trip was cut a little short, but I came out a winner and was invited to ride home in comfort on the only direct flight Reykjavik --> Scottsdale there may have ever been. I could list about 10,000 reasons why  airline travel is the pits...especially international airline travel and especially when you're pregnant, so shaving a day off my trip was most definitely a small price to pay to skip that rigmarole and save myself some puffy ankles. I'm kind of fond of one of the pilots that flew us home, too, so that was a bonus.

Anyway, I'd been up since 8am in Iceland (1am AZ time), and at the time of writing this it was 3am in Iceland. That's about as far as I'm willing and able to push it, but I hope the jet lag is gone in the next couple of days! The trip was incredible. I will say, however, that I might not recommend Iceland as a travel destination for the simple reason that it is almost completely cost prohibitive. We're talking like $25 for a burger. It is amazing and beautiful and all that, but unless you travel non-stop all your life, you will never hit all the amazing, beautiful, and incredible places on this planet, so you may as well go somewhere more affordable if you're planning a trip. Dylan was there for work, which makes the situation slightly different, and in that case, by all means go to Iceland!
