Dylan Back to Duty

Yesterday was Dylan's first day back to work, but the timing was good with the holiday weekend. He is at home again for the next three days. He doesn't work every day, but when he does, it can be a 16 hour day. Which is a slight issue being that I still cannot hold Baby G while standing or walking. Luckily, my mom was able to hang for a few hours in the morning, and Kristin came over in the afternoon. My mom and I attempted some cute baby pictures, and all we got out of it was a lot of pee on on the props. Kristin and I also tried out our amateur photography skills and got some cute pictures (with questionable lighting). Max and the boys came over later on with Kristin's Crock-pot full of chili. It was great...all the people and action made me feel normal again.

Hanging out on Nonna's lap.

Sometimes his eyes are open.

Doing what he does best.

We are doing well, and the little one is still sleeping a lot, which makes it easy to keep up with household stuff and not feel totally out of control. I was told the first two weeks are the hardest. I don't like being cooped up in the house unless I'm working on productive projects and stuff, and I always told myself I would be brave about taking the baby out to do things. However, I decided long ago to allow myself these first two weeks to find my bearings with motherhood and not feel like a total slug if the only things I accomplish are feeding, burping, changing, rocking, etc. Plus, it's recommended to not take the baby out until he's 8 weeks old and has had all his shots. 8 weeks?!? That seems a little excessive. What are people's thoughts on this. Do you follow this rule exactly, or have you cheated? I have a feeling Baby G might see the inside of a Fry's or Target before that much time passes, and I'm sure he won't be the first little baby to do so. But for now, we are sticking close to home except for doctor's appointments and to run quick errands.

Some early morning snuggles.

Skinny little leg and foot

I am completely sleep deprived, which is usually not something that I take to very well, but I don't feel like total hell (yet). I've managed to shower every day so far, and right now the baby is resting cozily in my arm as I type this post. I know everybody says they have 'such a good baby' when the baby is still a newborn since all newborns sleep all day, so I'm not getting my hopes up that Gavin will make things easy on me forever, but I'll take what I can get for now. We are working on beefing up Baby G, and as long as he gets a clean bill of health after his weigh-in next week and I regain full function of my right leg before the doctor takes a look at it again, I'd say we're in pretty good shape.
