My Luck is Changing

My life is really good, but I'm the type of person whose car gets shot in the middle of the day on a Saturday, not the type of person who wins contests, raffles, or games or who has random good things happen out of the blue. I'm just not a winner, and luck has never been on my side when it comes to things like that. But I have a feeling that's all about to change...

Yesterday morning, I took a Boot Camp class, which was part of the revised group exercise schedule for the holiday. Not a class I typically take, but I love fitting in a morning workout because it sets me up for a great day, and I knew this class would give me the butt-kicking that I needed. I wasn't really feeling it, and about 15 minutes in I got to thinking that maybe I could skip out and head upstairs to a machine and nobody would know any different. Plus, the class involved a lot of pairing up for some exercises, which I dislike because I'm socially awkward. But, for some reason, I decided to stick it out, and it's a good thing that I did! At the end of the class, everyone picked a number from 1 to 50 because the instructor had two gift cards to the spa for a 60-minute massage. I picked 14 and started gathering my things because there's no way I would win. Remember? I'm not a winner. And then he announced that the first winning number was 47, and the next was...14!

I was inordinately excited about this win. Mostly because I WON. Also, massages are my most favorite indulgence in the world. Add this one to the gift card I received for Mother's Day, and that makes TWO massages in my future. In the end, the reward for sticking it out till the end of class was far greater than the expense. Plus, I met a nice lady to be my partner for the exercises, and every muscle from my butt to my calf is sore today. It hurts so good!

We followed it up with a really great afternoon with friends. Gavin was pretty skeptical of the water at the beginning of the summer, but now he really loves floating in his float thing. So he was well-behaved while we threw back a couple of Modelos and enjoyed a dinner of turkey burgers with the Johnsons, Probstfelds, and Buttons. We haven't seen much of our friends lately, and I loved catching up with them! Unfortunately Gavin hits the hay before any firework show begins, so we were able to hear the pop of a couple illegal fireworks being set off by neighbors from our bed...but that was the extent of our 4th of July show.

Climbing on everything.

He's been making weird faces lately.

More smoothie please!

That's great, thanks.

My little patriotic baby

We are excited to have Dylan around for the long weekend, and we plan on making it a good one. This morning it was overcast and 84 degrees- practically winter conditions- so I dusted off my mountain bike and went for a spin. Man it felt good. And we have even more fun in store!
