If you know our family, you know that we are great at making plans, and we are even better at breaking those plans. For example, I had taken Monday off of work, and with the holiday, that would have given me 6 WHOLE DAYS OFF! So we planned to cash in on some mega Hyatt points that Dylan had accumulated while in training (...remember when he was gone for three weeks in November?) and head to La Jolla. Until a trip came up for Dylan, and our plans were foiled yet again. So, I picked up a few extra days at work, and Dylan will be headed to Costa Rica for the week. I think we can all agree that Gavin and I got the short end of the stick in this situation, but we're learning to tough it out just fine.
But it's not all bad news. We did have Saturday night together, so we traded a few nights in San Diego for one night at the Hyatt in Gainey Ranch. We pretended it was 35 degrees cooler, so it was basically the same thing. Actually, though, it was a really great time. How could you not love being at that resort? Plus, Dylan had earned so many perks...unlimited access to the Regency Room, early check-in, late check-out, access to the spa amenities (which we did not use), suite upgrade, free Internet, and a free wine and cheese platter delivered to our room at 5pm sharp! Our plans were cut a little short when...you guessed it...Dylan got a day trip to, of all places, San Diego. I'm sure the dogs appreciated being released from their dog run a little early after spending 24 hours locked up, and we all have a long week ahead of us, so I'm glad to have the afternoon at home.

But let's put the talk of our foiled plans aside and discuss another major win for me this weekend. If you're not a parent, you should stop reading because you'll be immeasurably bored. Once we dropped Dylan at the airport, Gavin immediately made malodorous deposit in his diaper and then fell fast asleep. Normally, I hate that. But upon arriving home, I made my first ever successful car seat to crib transfer of a sleeping baby. This was a super score, as I had a trunkful of bags from the weekend to unload from the car. He slept soundly on top of a hot turd until I was all unpacked and the laundry was started. I won't get my hopes up that it'll happen again, but any time Baby G takes it easy on me, I feel that it's cause for celebration. And that, my friends, is what my life has come to. Someone find me a glass of wine.
