Staying Cool and Chilling Out

When you can't really plan time away, you plan time right here in the most miserable place in the country during the summer. This time we headed over to the Pointe at Squaw Peak to cruise the lazy river and visit with our friends, Lukas and family. Shawn and Baby Luke even made it out for a couple of hours! I wouldn't say that our accommodations were luxurious or that the thousands and thousands of people that swarmed the lazy river were the most refined individuals I'd ever seen...but it was just perfect for one night.

We had a suite with a very dark bedroom, which helped a LOT when Gavin needed to sleep. (This was not the case in our suite of luxury at the Hyatt last weekend.) Which meant we could enjoy relaxing and some TV in the other room. And wouldn't you know, we even caught a flick. You know, the one with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler currently in theaters? Yeah, we ordered it on Pay Per View. I'll count it as my second movie since Gavin was born...because even though I wasn't in a theater, it's a show that's currently on the silver screen, and also I sat still to watch the whole thing. I would never, ever do that at home. It was really funny. Even Dylan would agree.

Pay Per View is not the only thing we ordered. We also called the local Papa John's to bring up a pepperoni pizza and a warm chocolate chip cookie. I felt like I was at the U of A again...except that I did not have a coupon for $5.99 this time. That, added to our lunch at In 'n Out Burger, made July 12th officially the least healthy day of my 2014. And probably 2013. I don't know what made me cut loose like that, but I sure enjoyed it. Now that I'm home, I feel like I should only eat kale chips and chia seeds for like a month.

I managed to capture a smile last week.

Gavin and Luke keepin' it real.

Gavin was so happy to cruise the river, we could have stayed here all day long.

Forget finger food, he's going for the whole fruit.

His hair is getting seriously ridiculous. Also, he kind of looks crazy here.

Our family really needed this weekend. Escaping the heat would be the best possible thing, but when that's not possible, the next-best thing is really good, too. There are more hotel points where those came from, and we'll find a way to get out of here, even if just for a little bit, before it is all said and done.

Here's to hoping for a better week than last. With the airplane down for a few more days and a guarantee of Dylan at home, I might just take advantage of this small window to schedule some pampering...a massage and a haircut, for starters. I'm back to a normal schedule at work and looking forward to second-weekend more than ever!
