We Got Rain

Last night we were awakened by really loud thunder and lightning followed by buckets of rain and a short power outage. It's not ideal for that to happen in the middle of the night, but we were lucky because Gavin slept through the whole thing, and we fell back asleep. Then, we woke up to a cool-ish and overcast morning, so I was given the green light to abandon ship for a couple of hours and hit the trail on my bike. I was well-rested and ready, and it was an awesome ride! We've got some more fun ahead of us for the day to round out a pretty good weekend.

We weren't sure things were going to go this way for us at first. Dylan woke up in Vegas on Saturday with plans to airline home for the weekend before picking the plane up on Monday, but he discovered that Southwest had cancelled his flight. His only other option was to make it to the airport in record time for an earlier flight, and somehow he gathered the crew and they hopped aboard just in time. Hooray! Once we had D back in town, we took Gavin to the Children's Museum. Anything that keeps the baby active and keeps us all in the air conditioning is always a good idea. He had even more fun than we thought he would playing in the baby areas and riding little cars.

Other than that, the rest of the week was a-ok considering the extreme temperatures around these parts lately. On Wednesday, Gavin and I hit the splash pad to cool off in the record heat. He didn't mind being blasted in the face by the fountains. Not one bit. He just cruised around and fit right in with the big kids. Sort of, anyway. They kind of tripped on him sometimes. I don't know if crawlers are the typical demographic at the splash pad.

Baby Einstein. Gavin usually sits through the whole episode, and I can read a book. Win-win if I've ever heard of one.

On Thursday night I spent my first night alone in the house with no Gavin and no Dylan. Just the dogs and me. One would think this would be peaceful and awesome, but because I'm mental, I slept horribly. Gavin spent Thursday night and Friday at his Nonna and Papa's house with his big cousins, which kept my mom super busy, I'm sure, but it seemed like everyone had a great time.

Can't get enough of the green tractor video.

Children's Museum!

Driving a pickle car.

Dad is so much fun!

Things are looking busy for he among us who flies an airplane for the coming weeks, but Gavin and I will be around and keepin it fresh and funky. Who is happy that August is just around the corner? For me, August signifies an end in sight to the summer...though if I'm being realistic I know that we have at least a couple months left of the heat at best. With any luck, we'll get some more rain, and before we know it, it will be time to celebrate Gavin J's first birthday!
