Momentum

We've had a series of really good two-day stretches around here, which I think is due to the better weather, Gavin's relatively good mood, and Dylan's presence at home...but not necessarily in that order. Whatever it is, I plan to keep it up because the living is easy and we are feeling good. Just today I was thinking of a time not too long ago when Gavin and I were alone at home for most of the weekends, his mood was foul for whatever reason, it was 150 billion degrees outside, and I felt like a prisoner. It didn't bring back happy memories. Summer 2014 will not go down in the books as the best one ever, but it is behind us now and we are only looking ahead.

I hit the Pemberton Trail early on Saturday morning and had a fantastic ride. Not too much later, the guys departed to drop Ted off at the airport and hit Costco on the way home. As I told Dylan, during this time, "I watched the crap out of our TV." Which meant that I watched two half-hour sitcoms on the DVR and then did some other things, and it felt so good. I didn't realize how refreshing it would be to spend a couple hours at home alone. We finished off Saturday night at the Scottsdale Quarter. The plan was to get my old phone fixed and ready to sell, let Gavin frolick at the splash pad for a little bit, maybe hit a few stores and top off the night with frozen yogurt. What actually happened was this...the Apple store couldn't get the phone fixed, so Dylan will be going back tomorrow. We swapped frozen yogurt for juice. We bought nothing else. BUT Gavin did have a nice frolick and burned off quite a bit of steam, and then to our surprise live music began at 5pm, so we stuck around for an extra hour until Gavin took a tumble down the step. He had focused his night on going up and down the two little steps over and over again. Then he had a scary fall, and we were lucky he didn't hit his head harder than he did. It was a really, really nice night other than that.

Just enjoying the concert

Sunday morning found us on the patio at AJs. It was perfect...the food was paid for and already in to-go containers in case an emergency exit was necessary. (It wasn't necessary though, not this time.) And even though the people quietly reading their newspapers were not too happy to see us show up, we were able to get a table pretty far out of the way. It was the most at-ease I had been dining out with Gavin since forever. The afternoon was reserved for preparing food for the week, cleaning up the house, taking care of some projects, snapping a mediocre family picture, fitting in a short workout and, of course, football.

I tried to snap a selfie, but Gavin wouldn't stop eating.

This was my idea of the perfect weekend. October is a really good month in the desert.
