It's 8:15 pm on a Friday, and three of us grown adults are complaining of being tired and slowly making our way to bed. I'm exhausted because I was up early to get to work the last two days and dealt with an impossible baby who wouldn't go to bed last night. Dylan and Ted aren't feeling great because they partied in Prescott last night and woke up early to play in a golf tournament today. Any way you slice it, we are getting old.
It has been a fantastic week, however. We've been fairly busy by my standards, and that is a-OK. My house is a complete and utter disaster. The dishes are stacked to the ceiling since Gavin didn't leave me much time to cook and prepare lunches before it was my own bedtime last night, causing me to choose sleep over cleaning. As an example, here is the view from where I sit right now. And that's not even the worst of it.

But...our bellies are full of Chipotle and Ben n Jerry's, the baby is resting peacefully in his crib, the guys made it home safely from Octoberwest, and we are ready for the freakin' weekend. We sat outside tonight, and I've been thankful 100 times over for the cool mornings and evenings around here. I even hit the trail on my bike a couple of days ago, and it was downright chilly! What else have we done? It's been such a whirlwind. Steak dinner on the patio, lunch with friends, and pizza night with my parents over here, the usual gym trips, and a stop at my happy place, Trader Joe's. (In my next life, I will be a cashier at TJs so I can shoot the breeze all day with the incredibly happy hippies that will be my co-workers.) Dylan took Gavin for his second haircut while I was out and about the other day, which was long overdue. Oh, and today my new iPhone showed up at the receiving door just past noon and was hand-delivered to my desk. (I had hyped the place up for the grand FedEx arrival of the phone.) It's gold...but not really Donna from Parks and Rec flashy gold, but more a classy champagne color. It has plenty of storage, so I can stop deleting pictures every time I want to take more. Thanks to D for always keeping me on the fresh 'n funky when it comes to technology.

Ted will be heading back to home base tomorrow, and I'll be sending G to the airport with the guys to get a rare couple of hours of peace around here. And none to soon for Ted, I'm sure. He asked me today if all the screaming that came from Gavin had to do with him finding his voice recently. He doesn't always scream just because he is unhappy...though that happens a lot, too. No, I told him. He has enjoyed screaming most of his life, and my ears hurt. The good news is that Gavin's been a nice boy at Dawn's recently, and he looks forward to playing with the Batman cars at her house so much that he doesn't even flinch at drop-off anymore.
And with that, I think it's time for me to crawl into my sheets (which could probably use a changing) and drift off to dreamland before my human alarm clock sounds off early in the morning. Things are improving...we are hearing wake-up calls closer to 6 than 5. I can handle that. Speaking of needing sleep...Gavin was up for 2.5 hours in the middle of the night on Monday night. I have no idea what that was about, but it was awful. We have some rough nights, difficult mornings, and hard days around here...but all in all it's a beautiful life, and I wouldn't change it for anything.
