Doing What We Do Best

It's been a little over a week since I've been on the blog, and I have very little to share. Dylan's been gone some, he's been home some. We've been spending evenings at the park so Gavin can burn off steam and then picking up pizza on the way home. I've dug into some new cookbooks that were sent to me by my Miller Fam and then cooked a few dinners and baked some goodies. G and I hung out with his cousins and my parents over the weekend. There was a dinner with friends and a long and satisfying bike ride where I set a few PRs. Morning walks and afternoon bike rides with G in his buggy. Waffles on a Wednesday...made from scratch this time! I started a good book and worked on the Christmas card. See, our typical thing...equal parts humble, comfortable and very fulfilling.

Borrowing a ride in his cousins' Rhino while we checked in on the dog for our family while they were at the hospital.

My Friday night.

My Saturday morning. Gavin discovered he does not like the taste of potting soil. At least it's not dog poo. (Though, that has happened.)

Saturday night movie in the park. It ended early and abruptly when Gavin burned his hand on a hot light and never recovered from a fit of hysterics. But fun while it lasted!

Step 1, put your kid in a box.

His trick. I couldn't decide if catching a picture or saving him from falling was the better decision. I definitely made the right choice...he got down on his own just fine.

But best of all? Gavin gained a new cousin...baby Pierce! He is tiny and adorable! Actually he's huge...born at 8lb 15oz, but so, so tiny all at the same time. He and his mama are doing well, and we feel so lucky to live across the street from the tiny baby and his big brothers.

And second best? The whole day today. My mom took Baby G, and D and I headed out to see a morning movie called Laggies. We followed it up with lunch at Original Chop Shop, which left us feeling hip and healthy. (Really, though, I love that place.) I, of course, loved the low-budget indie flick starring Keira Knightley. It came as a suggestion from my parents who spent four days seeing ten movies at the Scottsdale Film Festival last month. My mom has my taste in movies down to a T. The rare moments that Dylan and I get to spend together doing something we both enjoy are seriously treasured. The way home involved a stop at TJs and a casual drop-in at the local bike store so that Dylan could pick up his fancy new bike. Don't feel bad for me though...mine is on order and will be showing up next week (Yellow Cruiser 2.0), and then we'll both be set to tear around the preserve like it's nobody's business.

I took off for the morning and D had to get on a conference call, so G ended up on a wagon ride...the only surefire way to keep him happy and quiet during the call.

Get out, mom. And stay out!

11:30 am movie on a Wednesday with the retirees.

My mom has much better luck getting Gavin to eat in a civilized manner.

Spinning in a chair while D gets the suspension adjusted on his bike.

A quick test ride before bringing home his new set of wheels.

We are both back to the grind tomorrow but crossing our fingers that we'll have Dylan home for the weekend for the first time in what feels like a century but is probably actually just a month. Adios!
