Our new year started off in a fantastic way, not for any particular reason, just that we were all feeling good and life was just swell. It still is! It's funny, though, I had carefully prepared a list of new year to-do's before the holidays and only have now begun crossing items off the list. I thought things would slow down so much and that I'd have all kinds of time to catch up on life, but it just hasn't been that way.
So, finally, we've been able to spend a morning at home here and there. Yesterday we dismantled our bed in order to lay down the huge rug I had ordered for our newly tiled room...three months ago. To keep Gavin from getting underfoot and then squashed by a king size mattress we put him in the empty bathtub with books and cars. We also propped up an iPad just as an extra entertainment measure. Screen time, schmeen time. I know it's not a good thing, but we are lucky to have modern conveniences at our disposal, and I'm not afraid to use them when appropriate. Like when it means keeping your child from getting squashed by a mattress.

"Nonna!" is one of Gavin's favorite words |

Caught him using his airplane as a fork. I guess I should be better about providing utensils. |

He ate the potting soil. For the third time. |

Trucks, dirt, trucks, dirt. Do little girls ever do this? |

Why does water seem to taste so much better to him if it comes from my cup rather than his? |
Also, I've finally managed to get a swim lesson for Gavin on the calendar, and I've got appointments lined up for eyes, teeth and general health for several family members, including the mutts. We've got a wall to paint, a garage overflowing with junk that needs to be donated or sold, and a few other house projects to tackle. 2014 was a year of home improvement, and we rang in 2015 with a few loose ends to tie up before closing up shop and moving onto other projects. It feels good to be productive, but I'll be glad when we can move on with business as usual, whatever that may be.
In the meantime, D and I tag-teamed the parenting deal yesterday while he squeezed in a couple trips to the airport for different work things and I buzzed around town to shop and stuff. We continued the parenting relay today and fit in consecutive bike rides this afternoon. Dylan was really unnerved when he saw that I beat his time on a few legs. (I guess it's not uncommon for women to be faster than men on bikes since we are smaller...but heck yeah!) Not exactly a wholesome, family-oriented couple of days, but we each got lots of time with G and lots of time to do our other things. Not bad for a Tuesday and Wednesday.
