Tantrums, etc.

2015 has been an epic year for the second-weekend. Again this week, it was an awesome Tuesday/Wednesday. Gavin had skipped daycare all last week, except for two hours on Friday, because he was sick and then his grandparents were here. He also skipped Monday this week. I'm sure he missed Dawn and the gang, so we brought him by for a bonus Tuesday while Dylan and I fit in a 16-miler on the Pemberton. I fell off my bike for the first time. I was completely stopped. I had unclipped on the left but not the right, and my weight was to the right when I came to a stop. Doh. Other than that, it was an incredible time, and we rode some new trails that I previously hadn't known existed.

We got back home just in time for me to jet back out to get a long overdue haircut. (My hair looks the same...I was talked out of bangs.) Then D scooped up G, and I met them both at the pediatrician's office so that the doctor could assess whether Gavin's gait has improved. He was a very late walker, and at his last check-up, his doctor wanted to make sure the improvement was steady. She was still a little unhappy with his gait, so we were sent for some hip x-rays to rule out hip dysplasia, and indeed it was ruled out. I suppose we'll take her recommendation to get him some physical therapy, though I'm pretty sure he's just a little slow to gain the coordination to run and go up steps. I'm a little freaked out about him receiving radiation from the x-ray because I'm just paranoid like that, but all-in-all no big deal.

We ended the night at Spinato's with my parents and enjoyed our most favorite pizza in the whole universe. Gavin had a lot of screaming to do, which I'm sure was not appreciated by the other patrons, so he and I spent the last portion of the evening walking around the shopping center. Even still, it was one of the best overall days we'd spent with him in a while. He even did much better at the doctor's office and the x-ray place than I would have imagined. You see, while I was out of town, he decided to start this new thing of throwing epic knock-down-drag-out half-hour long uncontrollable tantrums several times a day. It's exhausting and very disturbing. So, we were very relieved to receive a positive report from Dawn and then see him stay in control for the afternoon, and I've been dissecting and over-googling this new challenge because I'm desperate for it to get better. I'm pretty sure it has to do with him being tired, which has never been a problem in the past. We had a rough start when he woke up today, but then he was happier this afternoon than I'd seen in weeks. So, when he started freaking out because I took off his shoe this evening, I knew it was time for bed, even if it was an hour earlier than normal. Hopefully we'll get a grip on this soon. Parents of toddlers, all suggestions are welcome, or anything you can say that will make me feel better, but please nothing that will make me feel worse.

Ooh a sea of plastic!

A bus and bubble wrap, the perfect recipe for pure delight. Who knew it was so simple?

We had a great, low-key day today. I bit the bullet and finally bought a painting that I had been eyeing forever, and it arrived today! I love it, and it looks great on our mantle. Gavin had a blast rolling around in the bubble wrap (supervised, of course). We hit swim lessons and TJs, and I snuck out to my sanctuary, the gym, to sweat and zone out for a while. But I think my most favorite part of the whole day was late in the afternoon when somehow all three of us could be found lying on the (fake) grass spotting airplanes. Gavin would run around then lie down and say "night-night." Then point at all the airplanes and say "air-pane", and repeat. Good old-fashioned fun. It was rather refreshing. And that, my friends, just about does it. I'm tired and ready for some R&R.
