The Opposite of Sunday Blues

I remember feeling so, so, so down in the dumps when it was Sunday night and another work week was looming ahead. Life is quite the opposite lately. I'm so glad tomorrow is Monday! We get Dylan back home and life gets a little more exciting. As a bonus, it's supposed to rain all day long.

Gavin and I made a fine pair all weekend, and he's been cooperating much better after a challenging week or so. When we encounter tough times with him, I always like to name a reason for it, and this time I'll blame it on some molars. I knew better than to stick my fingers in there and investigate, but he would touch his throat and say "Hurts." At first I thought he was getting sick. But he never got sick, thank goodness. He freaked out a lot, cried out during night, and wouldn't sleep, and his behavior was bad. I love how teething never occurred to me until we were through the woods. #momoftheyear

As for this weekend, Gavin and my mom built a fire truck at Home Depot on Saturday morning, and then we hung out at her house so I could get a little bit of work done. At some point, we made a stop at Yogurtology, and we took our very first walk of the season with the dogs. We even ate our dinner outside just to celebrate the break in the heat. It was all fun and games until Gavin grabbed a cactus, and I had to figure out how to get a bunch of hair-like stickers out of the palm of his hand. He wasn't real cooperative with tweezers, if you can imagine that. I tried the Elmer's glue method and called it good enough before putting him to bed.

Zevia poster child. (It was empty- he doesn't actually drink soda.)

A little young for hammer and nails, but he had fun watching Nonna.

His pals at Nonna's house.

I think the glue worked...but now we have glue all over the house.

On Sunday morning, we celebrated the pouring rain by opening the doors. Then, Gavin peed his underwear, got finger paint everywhere, put valuable items in the trash, and emptied the entire contents of my lower shoe shelf. This was my cue to load it up and go. I'm not much good at staying home with Gavin when it's just me and him. I'm always so busy doing other things and then he acts up because of the lack of attention. So, we spent a lot of time in the car this weekend, which then led me to the internet to shop for houses closer into town...until I remembered that moving is terrible, and I don't want to do it for a while.

Anyhow, it was off to Fountain Hills to feed the ducks, play on the playground, and walk a couple of laps around the lake. We got rained on a bit, but it was a welcome relief. At the same time Gavin went down for his nap, I felt like I had been shot by a tranquilizer dart. Sometimes he doesn't always fall asleep, but I figured he would suffer through it either way because I was taking a nap. Lately I've encountered that overwhelming fatigue that makes me borderline narcoleptic. In the afternoon, we were both refreshed and hit up Paul's second birthday party. Gavin enjoyed singing happy birthday to Paul and playing with his cousins before it was time to make the journey back up the hill and close out the night.

Loved the ducks until a duck took the bread out of his hand and kind of bit him.

And with that, we will welcome Dylan home with open arms in the morning. I'm pretty sure his last three weekends of work (and by that I mean adults-only all-expenses-paid adventure vacationing) have bested our weekends here at home, but I'm pretty sure he'll be happy to see us, too. When he takes really cool work trips, it has me dreaming of going on a trip alone and leaving the guys here. I'm sure that will happen some time before I'm 100 but probably not any time soon. In the meantime, I'm happy enough to hold down the fort.
