We spent a lot of time at home this weekend. We also got out a lot. With Dylan in town, it was the best kind of weekend. Gavin's turning into quite a Daddy's Boy since Dylan's been good about taking over all the things that involve heavy lifting (in and out of car, crib, bath, chair, etc.) And with him here to take Gavin out on the rhino, play with him outside and take care of the nighttime routine, my nesting instinct went on full blast. I did a lot of housekeeping. I think it was my way of getting things done ahead of time so I can allow myself to let everything go for just a few weeks after the baby gets here. I finally packed that bag, too, so he is welcome to arrive any time. Though, I have a cookie exchange, a lunch and a few get-togethers this week, so if he can wait until week's end, that would be perfect. But as long as things go smoothly and he comes out healthy, I'll take him whenever he wants to show up!
We've done all of our favorite Christmas things, so anything else will just be a bonus. Friday night was a tour of Christmas lights. Dylan put in a lot of work doing research and planning a route for our viewing pleasure. We packed up the cookies, hot cocoa and cider, loaded my parents in the truck, and set out for a couple of hours. So many people really outdid themselves with their lights. It was so much fun. When I was really little, I remember driving around a cul-de-sac in my Grandpa's neighborhood all month long because every house was totally decked out and it was really amazing. This same street ended up on Dylan's map, and it was so much fun to re-visit it! I hadn't been there in 15 years or so. We topped off the night at Winter Wonderland down by Saguaro. I had wanted to visit this house every year, but never seemed to get there. It was truly incredible. They even had a big display out in the backyard and icebergs floating in the pool like the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer movie.
Seriously awesome
Having a blast dancing on the driveway
Walking through the cave at Winter Wonderland
Mr Photogenic there in the middle
The loot is wrapped!
He didn't want clothes, so he got burritoed into a blanket.
He wanted attention so bad, he actually said, "Mommy, take my picture!"
Two peas in a pod
We also did the Carefree Christmas Festival. It was cold outside. And I mean COLD. Gavin had to wear his puffy coat. He and Dylan did the sled, and we walked around for a bit before claiming our spot for the parade. The parade was super cool, too. Our favorite was the float with the hot air balloon baskets shooting fire. It warmed us up. Gavin and Luke had fun watching the parade side-by-side on their dads' shoulders, but we were ready to head out and warm up when it was all over.
It was mittens cold
Police cars and fire trucks. His kind of thing.
The sledding hill
Our final hurrah was Jace's 4th birthday party at Pump it Up. When Gavin saw a Cozy Coupe, he climbed right in, instead of bouncing with all the kids. No surprise there. But then he discovered the tall slide and went right up the ladder. Gavin has never been known for his agility or athleticism, so he caused quite a back-up (a few times!) on his way up the slide. It was hilarious. Please see videos below. We enjoyed some donuts, then ran into IKEA for some picture frames before hitting America's Taco Shop and heading home.
Love these sweet cousins!
Nothing else matters when there's a car to drive.
We put all the cousins in a wind tunnel. Gavin and Pierce didn't really appreciate that.
Uncle has his hands full.
I spent my afternoon making egg nog flavored Christmas cookies for the exchange. I already closed the link, but you can find them on Pinterest. They are BOMB. If you like eggnog, that is. Okay, off to the next thing. Tootles!
