Tidbits

Right now I'm working on making a picture book of Gavin's first six months on Artifact Uprising. They have really pretty products if you need to make anything with your photos. You may spend a little more money, but it should be worth it. So that's my creative project for the time being, but here's some other stuff that I've been into.

Remember that blog post about the Generation Y Yuppies that was featured in the Huff Post? Well that's the Wait But Why blog, and it's incredibly entertaining. Most recently they posted a run-down on world energy use. We are in a serious energy crisis on this planet, and it's never had me more worried. If you care at all, you should read Wait But Why's Energy for Dummies. It refers to fossil fuels as "the most dickish of energy sources." What a very elementary and moderately offensive way to describe such a thing. I couldn't have said it better myself! I also recommend How to Name a Baby on this same blog.

As you can probably tell, I do a lot of reading on random topics. Sometimes I'll think about something I've read for longer than just a day, and I'll find it worth mentioning. This time, it's an article called In the Name of Love, which is about the whole Do What You Love thing and how it's actually kind of an elitist way of thinking. And I agree. Yes, many people spend most of their waking hours at work, so it's important to not hate what you do, but not every person can be fulfilling a deep-seeded passion with their work. For the people who do, that is fantastic! But you shouldn't have to feel like you're missing out on something if that's not the case. Some (most) people work because they need to make money to meet their own needs and those of their family, and that is okay. Lately I've developed a much healthier relationship with working, and I see great value in it. You meet interesting people you might not otherwise know, you have a sense of purpose, you feel satisfied by being good at what you do, and of course the money. And what a relief it is to feel this way. As a pharmacist, I'm no artist. I don't really even like drugs or find them very fascinating, and that's fine with me.

And for my final tidbit: I spent last Sunday at work. That sounds entirely awful, but actually it was only a little bit awful. If I worked at a chain retail pharmacy, then work would be my every other Sunday perpetually. How's that for perspective? We had customer service training, and the instructor was an experienced and interesting businessman. The whole day was mildly entertaining. Who would have thought? We left there feeling pretty lucky to work where we do, and additionally, I spent my lunch break sitting on a tailgate with Jess E. Catching up with a good friend always makes life a little sweeter. Gavin spent the day with Nonna and Papa while Dylan flew...somewhere. (I can't keep up anymore.) And that brings us to now. I'll be back soon to provide the details of our lives and some pictures of our chubby baby boy, but for now, sayonara and nighty night.
