Boring, Uninspired and Totally Okay

I had a kid-free night this week, and I didn't even feel compelled to post a life update nor the musings running through my brain. I spent the time being equal parts productive and blob-like. When, in the middle of the work day on Tuesday, my mom sent me a text asking me if she could pick up the boys and take them for the night, I replied with YES! and YES! just as sneakily and promptly as I could. Because, you know, being at work is much like being a lab rat where your every move is monitored and NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED. It was worth the risk.

I came home that night and was uber-grateful for the peace and quiet. It was one of those days where you don't realize how tired you are until you stop at the end of the day. I'm sure if it was a normal night, we would have come home and everything would have been just fine, but it wasn't normal. It was quiet...and I basked in it.

Dylan came home yesterday, and we rendezvoused over dinner with friends after work followed by a show-stopping performance by Gavin at The Scottsdale School Spring Musical. Other than that, we have never had a more typical week. So without further ado, please enjoy some photographs of my children being at home and patronizing their favorite stores.

We go to Costco, which may as well be Disneyland, as far as Gavin is concerned.

We eat lunch because we are humans.

Followed by ice cream cones in the backyard.

And then a snack. We're big on food.

And it's all just so exhausting that we stop and rest on the tile.

We're sweet...

...and silly.

Gavin's favorite thing is swimming in Nonna and Papa's hot tub.

...and driving the quad on the driveway.

Nonna's been really working on his baseball skills.

...and then they came back home and baby brother sat on all the Legos :(

And then he built a gun. Sigh.

A very adventurous Target trip to the non-kid-friendly Target in far north Scottsdale.

Usually it's easier to get out of the house in the afternoon than it is to just stay home. This was not one of those times.

This $6 Hot Wheels track was money well spent.

Poor Gavin had spent the entire day at school, then ran around in circles with his friends at a restaurant, and then he had to go on stage at a time he is normally fast asleep for the night. So, he basically yawned and picked at his butt while the other kids sang and danced. It was seriously funny.

So, there you see. The ho-hum life of me and the boys during the week. The best news is that it's Friday. I won't pretend that we have all fun and games ahead of us, but we'll all be together. We've got plans to get this house picture perfect so that we can schedule a photographer and list it. Our thought now is that we will buy an old house and renovate it. Which is a fun idea. But that sounds like it could take a long time. Also, even though we can make the numbers pencil out just perfectly on paper, I'm sure it will cost us five times more than we think. I would love to renovate and pick out all my own stuff. I really do think it would be a cool project and would set us up in something we would love. But then we're looking at renting for a long time and storing our stuff and storing our trailer, and so many moving parts have to fall into place, and so much money has to fall from the sky. I don't want to sign up for a headache. I just want the hell out of here. So, as usual, I will keep you posted.
