Mom About Town

I had my first big day out by myself yesterday. Yep, Target and Fry's. It's the first time I've been away from the baby. I remember thinking back in the day that it would be so weird when I reached the point in my life where a trip to Target by myself would be a glorious thing. And now I'm there. I've spent three full weeks not being more than a few steps away from Gavin, and I've never spent that much time being that close to one person. Isn't it strange to think of it that way? I'm not complaining...it's just interesting.

I definitely would not say that we've found a routine, but I'm starting to realize the times of day that G is sleepy and hungry. We've taken to paying many visits to the cousins across the street and going for a sunset walk at night. It's still pretty warm, but at least we're shaded. It's worth it to get the fresh air.

Gavin timed his delivery well with the football season. He spends a lot of time with his dad just chilling and watching the game so that I can get things done around the house. I'm still having trouble letting certain things go so that I can get some rest. Whenever I get a second, I pull up to the to-do list and go at it like crazy. Gavin spends as much time eating as he does not eating (or maybe more) so I try to grab every moment I can to keep some control in my life. I'm just programmed to keep that control I guess. I'm exhausted but I've just learned to live this way. A month ago, I would have never been okay with the sleep deprivation (or typing a blog post with one hand while the baby eats because I'm tired of everything else on the Internet), but now it's just normal.

On days we spend at home, I try to steal a lot of baby snuggles. Today we ventured out to have lunch with Jess and visit my mom, and for all the hours we've been at home G has neither been asleep nor happy. Which equates to no productivity for me and no snuggles, either, except for endless attempts at consoling the angry man. I guess there's always tomorrow!

The weekend was very good. We had a great visit with the Ladies Meabon (and they brought an awesome lunch) and also shared some meals with our family-neighbors. I've been able to sneak a glass of wine here and there, and of course I had my big adventure out on the town. We've loaded up our calendar full of things for the week. Our little man has a very demanding social life. We'll have Dylan around for some extra days, too, which will make things a lot easier and a lot more fun!
