We got out of Arizona for a long weekend, and it was just what the doctor ordered. I dropped G off with my mom on Thursday afternoon and hopped on a flight to Seattle, where I then rode the Link downtown and slept wonderfully alone in a quiet hotel room. It was glorious.
Dylan met me in Seattle on Friday afternoon, but not before he missed some interesting field trips and discussions with smart people about things that were mostly over my head. Saturday brought us more talking with smart people and decisions amongst our committee. We were wined and dined in-between. I have hardly eaten restaurant food in the last six months, so my stomach was confused about all the fancy cocktails, sushi, Thai food, catered breakfasts, etc. I felt like I had swallowed a brick by the end, but it was worth it.
Gavin playing with his sweet cousins!
Sunny day in Seattle
I also received updates on my fur babies from my dogsitter. They weathered the storm just fine.
Gavin took many walks with Nonna
So happy with all his toys at Nonna's house
My main squeeze. Love him so.
Cutest subject in the photo studio
I love places with character.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about leaving Gavin for three nights, but it went a lot better than I thought it would. I knew he was in good hands with my mom (my dad was in Colorado on a ski trip), and I received frequent pictures, videos, and updates. I don't think I realized how badly I needed this break. Not just from child-rearing, but from everything. It was incredibly refreshing, and it was also nice to have so much exclusive adult time. I always leave Seattle feeling inspired and energized and with a clearer view of things. Living in Scottsdale is a little bit like living in a bubble. Actually, I find it pretty stifling. It's good to poke your head out every once in a while and be reminded of what else is out there. Getting out and talking to people and learning things from them is oh-so interesting, and it really lights a fire under your butt to just live better. My only regret is that I missed the epic rain storm out here!
