Hang Time

Do you ever have the problem of acquiring something new to hang on the wall but then take a long time to actually hang it because you don't want to do the math and measuring that is involved in achieving a level hang? Well then, you can imagine why it took me months to complete this project.

And this one.

I'm looking to tone it down a bit with the decor, which you would never guess by the above photos. I decided to gather all the colorful obnoxious things hanging around the house and consolidate them to one gallery wall. I have relocated a bunch of stuff so that each wall is a little more simply decorated. On the whole, the house still has a ton of things hanging on most every wall and likely will stay that way till we move out of it since that's just my style.

The project with the family photos was a long time in the making. My original idea was to go with gold frames until I saw the price ticket on four large custom frames and mats (even with a 50% off coupon)! So I regrouped and visited the website of my go-to guys for all my framing needs and found these 20 x 24 frames. Then, I did some measuring (which turned out to not be perfectly accurate...but all ended well) and had the mats made. All for a fraction of what the custom project would have been. Thanks so much to my sister-in-law, Tess, for sharing her gift of photography with us. I love these photos so much. If you need a frame in an unusual size or fun color, try the Rusty Roof. I've ordered from them four separate times and have been very pleased each time. The only problem was, each of the four frames for the family photos had the hanging wire at a different height on the back of the frame, so it involved A LOT of math to get the pattern to look on-target. Which was actually okay once I found my math groove, and it all paid off in the end.

I've been working on some new ideas for a while, and it's all finally coming to fruition. My last mini-project involves hanging some colorful plates on the wall where our wine rack will no longer be, since it's proven to be incredibly dangerous to Gavin on several occasions. I have some plates picked out at Anthropologie (aka The Best Place Ever) to order, but I just need to know...has anyone ever had experience mounting plates on a wall? Any tips?

I'm sure I'll be back soon to report on the weekend, but I hope yours has started out as pleasant as ours has been.
