End it with a Win

Go Hawks! The Seahawks win was an especially great way to round out a pretty fantastic weekend. I'm not even into football, and even I felt a little emotionally invested in this game. Wow, what a comeback. The Seahawks are Dylan's team, and now he gets to see them go to the Super Bowl two years in a row, and this time right here in town!

But let's rewind, shall we? Saturday started off slowly, and we hung around here and caught up on life. When Gavin woke up from his nap, we loaded up our equipment and drove to the Albertson's on Indian Bend where we embarked on a 20-mile round trip cruise to Tempe Town Lake and back. I had fun getting back on Yellow Cruiser, my preferred method of transportation as a college kid down in Tucson. Dylan had recently restored her tires back to health, and while her ride is not as smooth as that of Yellow Cruiser 2.0, it was fun to be back in the saddle of a fixie. Dylan, who also rode a beach cruiser, pulled Gavin in his little buggy. It's mostly an easy ride through the green belt...but I wasn't the one towing 30+ pounds behind me, so you can ask Dylan his opinion on that. Gavin was a champ and enjoyed the whole thing, but he wasn't too happy about loading back up when it was time to head home from the lake. He had a great time watching airplanes and playing in the grass.

Watching the Lego movie with his dad. It kept him captivated for like 10 minutes.

Enjoying a carbonated beverage while I do the laundry.

An airplane!

We had worked up quite an appetite after our ride, so we went directly to Red Robin where Gavin had a great time waving at strangers and being all-around messy. He went down for the night as soon as we got him home, and he stayed down till morning, for which we were extremely grateful. The previous night he had pulled his "party for 3 hours in the middle of the night" shenanigans, and I'm just not up for that kind of thing anymore. I don't have the constant adrenaline coursing through my veins like I did for Gavin's first 14 months or so, which is definitely a good thing, but being up with him really knocked me on my butt this time.

Sunday started with a figurative bang. We again loaded up our gear and dropped Gavin at Nonna's House of Fun to hang with his grandparents for the morning. Luckily he was in a better mood for them. He went through a really tough couple of weeks (teething? IDK) and was a pretty big turd whenever I took him anywhere, so we were all thrilled to seem him have a change of attitude at drop-off. Then, Dylan and I headed back through Fountain Hills to hit the Pemberton Trail from the regular trailhead. We always sneak into the park and onto this trail because it's just a couple of miles from our house, but we were excited to do the whole loop in the opposite direction than we normally do it. Man, it was a really really awesome ride. I sure got my exercise trying to keep up with Dylan, and it was just so much fun. Thanks for the free babysitting, N & P!

In the afternoon I kept Gavin entertained in the backyard while Dylan cheered on his team. He pulled his dirty Seahawks shirt from the laundry, covered in Gavin's food and boogers from the previous weekend, because obviously you can't cheer on your team in a big game wearing normal clothes. Hudson came over and took Gavin on the ride of his life in the wagon, and I had so much fun with those boys. I even fit in a little bit of reading on the grass. It was a beautiful, sunny day outside, and I also found time to fix us red curry lentils for dinner. A rare win in the kitchen, which paired perfectly with the Seahawks win.

One hand in the dirt, one hand holding a car. Typical.

What a fun big cousin!

It's not lost on me how good I have it. Sure, I'd like to have more time, more of this and more of that. It's the human condition to want more. But as it stands now, things are just about as good as they can be. Except that tomorrow is Monday, but I suppose there's not much to be done about that. I hope you had the opportunity to get outside this weekend, too!
