It was a great weekend for getting outside. Cooler weather and some rain...perfection! Dylan was supposed to be in the midst of a huge, long trip, but instead he was home with us. Icing on the cake. So, on Saturday morning, we crashed the camping party at LoLo Mai. We don't have a trailer/5th wheel/RV, and I wasn't keen on the idea of trying to tent camp with Gavin. Probably not a big deal for some people, but just not my cup of tea. So we made a day trip of it, which was perfect. Gavin spent 98% of the time on his hands and knees in the dirt pushing around his various friends' trucks and tractors. What gracious friends we have to let him barge in on all their stuff. He was completely in his element the whole time. My attempt to get him to nap completely failed, which was no surprise at all. We went on a little family walk with G in the backpack and headed out just after we ate dinner. Gavin passed out in the first five minutes of the car ride, and I thought that would be it for him for the night. But no, he spent the second half of the drive wide awake and talking and hung out in his crib for a long time before finally falling asleep after 9:30. (He's usually asleep around 7.) I guess he was all amped up about what a great day he'd had. We're thinking that some day we'll get a trailer, too, but we're trying to figure out if that's a good idea for a family that can't plan anything more than a day in advance.

We followed up this adventure with a productive morning at home on Sunday and then headed out on a bike ride to Tempe Town Lake in the afternoon. We were incredibly lucky to have avoided the rain all afternoon. The sky was really scary looking for the entire ride back, and for a while it was cold and windy. I don't think I would have appreciated being poured on while riding the green belt, but I'm glad I didn't have to find out what that would feel like.

I am so thankful for fun family weekends like this. They're just the best.
