Other Holiday News

I left out two important things from Christmas this year...

First, a little late to the party, but Gavin finally took some steps on his own! At one day shy of 16-months old, he took a step or two by himself. On Christmas Eve, 16-months-old to the day, he took a few consecutive steps, and we call this the day he took his first steps because we caught it on video, he took more than just one or two steps, and it was Christmas Eve. A real gift!

The kid had a lot stacked against him...he is huge, his head is huge, and his mother was a particularly lazy baby who, herself, did not start walking until 15-months-old. So, as the months ticked by and he remained on all fours, I wasn't too concerned. But I became pretty antsy about it in the last few weeks. He had met all other milestones on time, so essentially he's been furniture cruising and walking while holding a hand for months and months. And he is probably the fastest crawler in this zip code, which did not help his motivation to start walking. But...he's finally there, and we're seeing a little improvement every day. He kept us in suspense for so long, and we are glad the wait is over. Go Gavin!

Second, I have the honor of being a bridesmaid to the very special Mikaila Miller soon-to-be Schwartz! Mik definitely won the award for prettiest gifts, so much so that I had to snap a photo before digging in. In the pink box was an Essie nail polish, and below that a small note asking me to be her bridesmaid. The whole family watched via FaceTime, and it was such a fun surprise. I get to pick out my own dress in a lovely light pink color, and we are all so excited for the wedding in Portland this summer. Yay!

G and I are enjoying a day off today, and we are being particularly lazy since it's so cold outside. We'll think about taking the dogs for a walk when it's not 38 degrees outside. I was a little bummed for Christmas to be over because it meant 10 straight days of Dylan and I working and only sharing one day off together...New Years Eve. But, on Saturday, the last part of Dylan's trip cancelled, and he came home a night early. I was released from inventory by 11am on Sunday, and we were able to celebrate Hudson's 5th birthday with family. Dylan will be home by the afternoon today, and we should be able to fit in some good family time before the post-New-Year's weekend travel rush that will keep him so busy!

Dodgeball with the cousins!

Gavin crawled up the slope of the trampoline and then slid down on his belly over and over again for an hour. A couple of times Dylan threw him up there so he could get a lot of momentum to his slide. It looked dangerous...but he loved it.

Happy Tuesday and early New Year to you!
