It's the day of rest. I've decided to really take that to heart. With a never-ending to do list, it really makes no difference if I spend one afternoon being a slacker. Everything manages to get done. So, it's been a really nice family weekend. D and I both made it home late Friday night...me from a movie with Kristin and Anne and D from California. My brother, the Super Dad, took all FIVE boys on Friday night and didn't have any anxiety about it. Incredible. On Saturday, I spent a solo morning out and about before we met up with our family across the street for swimming and burgers. On Sunday, G and I headed out to church while D & G2 stayed behind for an extra half hour so that G2 could get a complete nap. I did my first session volunteering in the children's ministry. I'm not really a kid person, but I figured it was the least I could do since I've pawned my children off there plenty of times in the last couple of years. Really, it wasn't so bad. In our room was one lady who knew what she was doing, 26 (!!) children aged 4 or 5...and me. It was total chaos, but I think everyone had fun and stayed safe, so whatever. After that, we had a picnic and went to the splash pad before heading back home for the day.
We send Dylan off again tomorrow, but this time it's for work. After that, we've got one week left before sh*t figuratively hits the fan. I knew it would be bad...but it's BAD. Like, he travels for three weeks in a row then has one week off before a SIX week stretch of traveling. He's home on most of the weekends, so that's a reprieve. Worst of all is that Gavin is
still on the wait list for pre-school. I'm about to really learn the definition of full-time mom. And I have a feeling I'll become a gym rat because it might be the only thing to keep me sane. Silver lining: maybe I'll finally get rid of these thunder thighs. I dunno, maybe I should begin accepting applications for a co-parent. I do not discriminate based on gender, but smokers need not apply. The pay is horrible, but I keep the fridge well stocked. #lifeofapilotswife

It was one epic summer. I think the time off will end up being a good trade-off for the busy season. (I probably won't agree with this statement at any time during the months of August, September and October, so let's not talk about it until Thanksgiving.) Once it's all behind us, the memories of our summer are what we'll keep with us always. I'm sure we'll have plenty of smiles and adventures this fall, too. And anyway, we've got plenty of fun coming up in the next couple of weeks, so for now I'll focus on that!
